REPORT OHIO SIGHTINGS

READING COLLARS:
With very few exceptions all goose collars used in the country are some combination of 2 letters and 2 numbers (especially orange). Any reports to the contrary are most likely in error and useless. We have found it beneficial in official surveys that the observer makes better ID if they know the chances of various combinations. So far all Ohio collars have been white with black letters and of the NANA combinations.

Ohio Color-tagged Waterfowl Sightings Log

In time, this inventory will provide a history of any given individual. To this end, Ohio birders are asked to follow up on sightings within the log. Ideally, weekly entries will give a glimpse into the life of these birds. Commentary on interesting behaviour, such as mating with another bird, or even an apparent close association with another collared bird is welcome.

...Common Canada Goose Branta Canadensis the Atlantic Flyway bird of the Ungava peninsula of Quebec.
These birds are similar in size to Interiors but more the coloration of
Giants.
Demonstrating a clever approach
to confirming band readings, Gina Buckey
photographed a number of geese, including this one above and the one opposite, using a digital camera and a Questar scope.
