Peterjohn in the 2nd edition of Birds of Ohio (2001) only recognizes arrivals from the 14th on - probably in reference to a bird banded at Springville Marsh SNP (Seneca Co.) some years ago by Tom Bartlett.
Subsequent to the original posting of this page (see bottom) I received this information from Larry Rosche (editor of The Cleveland Bird Calendar - a journal of field ornithology for the Cleveland Area). Larry provides the following published early spring arrivals for the Cleveland area.
- March 25, 1962. At Aurora Pond seen by Dr. Neil Henderson.
- March 30, 1938. Listed by A.B. Williams in "Birds of the Cleveland Region" 1950.
- The March 11, 1960, report from Owen Davies was not confirmed but did appear in Audubon Field Notes 14:4:392.
In addition to the winter records listed by Peterjohn, DR. DeSantis had one in January 16, 1960, at Cleveland Public Square.
