Subject: Kelleys Island Census - sort of
Kelleys Island, Erie Co. OH 9 December 2004
After reading of Wilson's and Black-throated Gray Warblers,
Red-eyed and White-eyed Vireos, etc., etc. on the NORTH
side of ERIE the first week of DECEMBER, I was curious
what Kelleys Island might have to offer. As this is not the
middle of the month when Tom Bartlett
does his official island census, I put a kink into the routine
by starting out at North Pond and then going counterclockwise
around the island. I also put more emphasis on terrestrial
birding, stopping to pish at most any chickadee sound along
the road so as to draw in the flock. I also walked the entire
North Alvar Preserve (the only site visited not covered by the
regular census).
9 Dec 2004; 07:45 to 13:15 pm (only a half hr longer than normal)
overcast all day, with a E wind at 8 mph becoming calm at noon.
