FIELD NOTES
Winter 04-05

Publication TYPE: Ohio-birds listserv posting
Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2004 22:06:30 -0500
Subject: Northern reservoir census: Mon 13 Dec.

Northern Reservoir, Lorain & Huron Cos. OH

Mon 13 Dec. I travelled to Tiffin (Seneca Co.) via several reservoirs. The weather was not conducive for observations so this is little more than a negative report. All water was open.

Oberlin City Reservoir

Ring-billed Gull - 6500+
Herring Gull - 500+
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 adult
Great Black-backed Gull - 5 (4 adult, 1 imm.)
Ruddy Duck - 230+ (but they were along the opposite wall at the limit
of visibility so may have numbered a good many)

Wellington Upground Reservoir (visibility deteriorating)
- could make out shapes of hundreds of Ruddy Ducks, and farther
out more duck/coot shapes (no census possible)

South Wellington Reservoir
- no birds as usual

New London Reservoir (only eastern half visible)
- no birds

Willard Reservoir (now west of the lake effect squalls so good vis.)
- no birds (several decoy sets)
... this reservoir was about as low as I have seen it.
