I had hope to beat the rain to Ashtabula for some shore study but not to be. This is more a negative report than anything regarding birds.
Walnut Beach (NOT an IBA due to lack of data): a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron was among the very few birds here. Lakeshore Park (west of the Ashtabula Power Plant) - nothing of note here; again very few birds evident Sunset Park - always nice scenery from these 90ft cliffs but only about 150 Red-breasted Mergansers seen offshore. Conneaut Township Park (immediately west of Conneaut); three different units. - there were about 950 Red-breasted Mergansers offshore from the beach. Conneaut Harbor - exceedingly few birds; only a few gulls Unknown wetland - there is likely a private wetland that is visible from I90 just west of the exit for Rt 45. Just thought I'd mention that is has held 150 geese the past couple of times I have been by.
cheers
