The Selasphorus sp. hummer that has been frequenting my feeders in Logan Co. since Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, was positively identified yesterday (Sept. 26) as an adult female rufous hummingbird when the bird was captured, examined and banded. Many thanks to Allen Chartier for bringing his professionalism and expertise all the way from Michigan to capture this bird and satisfy a lot of people's curiosities.
Within 30 minutes or so of being released, the hummer was back feeding at the very same feeder from which it had been captured. We continued to see it the rest of the day and evening (even after the rain started) in and around the area sitting on its "usual" perches and feeding on both hummingbird feeders and the various annuals and perennials in my yard.
At least two ruby-throated hummingbirds were also observed yesterday, one was captured and banded.

The rufous hummingbird first seen on Sept. 19 in Logan Co. remains on site. As of a couple of weeks ago, it appears to have completed a major molt. Its plumage overall now appears more smooth and the tail has grown back in completely. There still could be some less noticeable feathers being replaced.
