Mew Gull

Larus canus

This first-year bird was found Thursday, 5 March 1998 by John Pogacnik at a marina at Fairport Harbor. It has been viewed by dozens of persons since then. These photos were taken on Saturday 7 March 1998. They are 500mm mirror shots of a bird so tame as to not infrequently land on a post but ten feet away, necessitating backing up to get these shots on some print film for quick turn around in scanning for the web. My slide material will likely be better but takes a good deal longer for both processing and scanning. This bird was also video-taped, hopefully picking up both the high pitched whistled squeal (as described in books) and a low, hoarse, forceful, admonishing croak.
